Something really weird and fishy is happening to mobile phones nowadays. After reducing its size from the traditional Zack Morris Motorola proportions in the 80′s and 90′s, they’re back to basic sizes again.

They are almost soo big that can’t even fit into our jeans pocket properly anymore.

Dell Streak , to be launched worldwide, later this summer is the biggest of the big big daddy phones so far , with 5-inch screen oversizing the iPhone 4 , which measures only 3.5-inch diagonally.

It seems to look like a book , when held up to a person’s ear.The Streak’s ultra big screen has been the main focus of debate over the internet, with various technology blogs arguing about what kinds of pants you’d have to wear to carry it around in your pocket; how big your hands have to be to hold it; whether or not people will stare at you when you’re using it; and, perhaps most significantly, what exactly constitutes a phone these days.

Nowadays a phone is just a simple device that you use to make calls with? Or does it have to be portable and easy enough to carry with you, regardless of how baggy your pants or jeans are?

As the phone technology improved over the years at one moment I admit there was a trend for smaller and thinner phones , But Its just like we’re seeing a pendulum swinging back in time to favor the larger phones.

Mobile phone manufactures are trying to push the limits of what is possible in Several Smartphones which run on a operating system developed by Google , Microsoft or Apple who have come out with screens that are larger than 4 inches .

The HTC Evo and the Motoroloa Droid X, for example, both have 4.3-inch screens. Sony Ericsson is also said to be working on another 5-inch smartphone, the same size as the Dell Streak.

The other potential issue with large phones is that it can be difficult to hold them up to your face, depending how big your hands are and if your arms are strong. hand would literally became tired and stretched-out from holding the phone. Be prepared even for some stares from strangers, people are going to look at you in a funny way when you’ll be holding such a large gadget up to your face.

But as a matter of fact and as a consideration as well, phones have increasingly become internet portals, e-book readers and video players, having bigger screens would make them more useful.

These functions are increasing day by day up against some long-held ideas about what a mobile phone is. Its been ages that we have named it as a gadget that you can easily carry in a pocket and hold to your ear to make a call.
