When we talk about image editing, it is common to come out with the name of Photoshop, this being the tool of choice for design professionals and amateurs, and that has rightly come to occupy the places of choice with its power and amount of functions to edit. But what happens when we do not have this tool available to us, it is always good to have on hand some options that are not so far from the power of Photoshop and that is what I want to share with you  today.

Web applications are a great help when we do not have many programs installed, or when our system does not have sufficient resources to run a heavy and advanced software such as Photoshop, fortunately today is very easy to find online tools that have little difference to their peers and desktop graphics publishers.

Here are 5 excellent online editors I want to share with functions similar to those in Photoshop, which will facilitate the task of editing when you need it the most. To access them just click on the title of each.

1. Aviary Phoenix: It is a powerful online image editor. Lets you work with images from your computer or import them from a URL, your Flickr account, Facebook or Tumblr. It has everything you need to draw, retouch and edit images and photos, apply filters and separate each item with new layers. It also lets you store and share over the network, integrate it into your own website or limit their availability to your friends, but for this you will need to register.

2. Splashup: This online editor boasts an interface similar to Photoshop but much more Lite, though it contains fundamental palette tool, color panels and layer management. With these you can easily tweak almost any photograph. Also, Splashup has a section on basic effects and filters with which you can apply fades, change of tone, color and many other things you can think of.

3. CloudCanvas: An online photo editor that supports both vector and bitmap. Its interface is similar to that of Photoshop, but your options are more limited, is set on HTML5, therefore you must install a modern browser that supports this language.

4. Pixlr: This is a very powerful web application that has nothing to envy from their desktop equivalents. Its interface is quite similar to Photoshop, which will be useful for those who work regularly with this tool. In it we  find support functions for selections, masks and layers, with specific effects such as HDR simulator effects, tilt-shift , kaleidoscope, processing, and crossovers and many more.

5. Sumo Paint: A versatile tool that perfectly mimics the interface of the big retouching editors. Within its panels and toolbar you will find all its functions easily, and are not few. A large number of brushes and shapes, lots of filters, support for text and layers, as well as basic vector paths, including basic 3D support modifications.

Know of a free web application that can compete with traditional Photoshop? If so share it with us.
