Review Sony Vaio F 3D Notebook 2011
Sony this year launched its high-end Vaio F 3D notebook. With its 16-inch screen, 3D option and Bluray reader aspires to be a mini entertainment center. And its price (about $1,800, reviewing several local options), you'd better be.
It is precisely the video department where this laptop shines more: its quality is impeccable. Its Full HD LCD display achieves outstanding sharpness and vivid colors, the LED illumination allows for high gloss. But also one of its best features is its 240Hz refresh rate to allow more fluidity in video, and less eyestrain (HD laptops typically have a maximum of 120hz).
This last feature is vital to create the 3D effect, the feature of the marketed Vaio F. Thus each eye is given 120Hz, allowing the livelier scenes to not blurred and have better definition. In addition, the processor power keeps up to 240 frames per second when playing videos, even the most demanding 3D.

This, however, does not apply to games that are compatible with the 3D. Enabling this feature and image quality loss becomes noticeable and FPS drops below 30, which makes the movement not fluid. In any case, this laptop is not the most suitable for playing modern games, as the GeForce 540M GT video card is geared towards the lower-middle range.
The laptop comes with a pair of 3D glasses, which allow the effect to not be lost even if you move your head. The lenses battery lasts about 5 hours, allowing full movies without problems. The only question is that the battery makes the lenses quite heavy and uncomfortable and not very pleasing aesthetically.
The sound quality is not far behind, especially if you activate the Dolby PC Entertainment Experience or the Sony S-Force Surround 3D, which expands the field of virtual surround.
The computer boasts a 2 GHz Intel Core i7-2630QM CPU processor with more than enough RAM at 6 GB of memory, it can be made to do several tasks at once without any problems. We tried running a game simultaneously, using two design programs, surf the Internet and watch a video. There were no major problems with performance. Also, the boot time is quite good: properly configured, ready to operate in less than 20 seconds.
This power comes with a price (besides money): The average duration of the battery is low. While using some programs and WiFi takes a little less than 2 hours, playing video constantly (not 3D), the battery touches 1 hour and half.

Going to more mundane, the exterior design of the laptop is quite striking visually texture glossy black and chrome Vaio logo. However, once you put your hands on it part of the beauty is gone: Fingerprints infest the outside after a while of use, a problem that will not go away unless you have a practice of wearing gloves.
Then there is the weight. With its 3.2kg is not very comfortable carrying it and less to put them on the legs, which makes the term "laptop" not fit.
Another small design problem is the location of the USB port on the right side (where the mouse is used), which is the "bottom" or close to the screen, but the nearest to the user. This creates some discomfort when using a wired mouse.
Sound design decisions are, ample space to support the hands when typing. The keyboard with LED lighting is very convenient (although almost standard). The cursor pad, but sometimes has problems of sensitivity, will not overheat when the computer has been turned on long time.
Then, assuming that apart from a computer for work users are also looking for a "mini" Home Theater, then the Vaio F 3D is perfect. But if you just want a computer and the 3D is not a must (and less for a laptop), paying almost $2,000 is not recommended.
