The segment of compact cameras with powerful lenses is booming because of the possibilities offered regarding the most basic cameras, but without the complications of SLR models

Panasonic Lumix FZ100 Review

The Panasonic Lumix FZ100 felt like a great camera suitable for a wide range of users. From those who have no idea of photography, but are looking for a powerful optical zoom, up to those amateur photographers who want to photograph something with lighter and more compact camera than an SLR.

Both groups should be quite happy for many reasons. The principal is the range of use of optics: from the capture of every detail with up to 54x magnification macro if we raise the optical and digital zoom.

It also includes some up to date features, as a recognition of faces, that during our tests it worked like a charm, even recording video in Full HD (1,920 x 1,080) and stereo sound. We also liked other details such as the mini HDMI connection or the only 2 seconds needed to have the camera ready to shoot.

On the negative side we have the price (higher than its direct competition), a case too "plastic", needs a better LCD display (not the 3-inch TFT, which is excellent) and some left to be desired results in situations of low light without flash.

Price: $499 but on sale for $399
