NVIDIA GeForce GTX 590 Review
Without being the first to have a GTX 590 we still managed to get a hold of one and we therefore you know what comes next, the analysis. As has been customary for many generations ago, NVIDIA after a new series comes out they release a dual GPU on one PCB, as is commonly known in the geek world as X2.
As for specifications, inside the GTX 590 are two GTX 580 running at 124 MHz on the GPU, down from 772 MHz to 608 MHz in both GF110 cards of the GTX 590, while memory also operates at a lower frequency, reaching up to 1708 MHz instead of 2004 MHz in the GTX 580. This, plus the cooling system can keep a lid on heat consumption and heat dissipation, anything to not end up with very broken expensive video card or boat anchor for the Sunday stroll.
The NVIDIA dual-GPU monster passed through our labs and this is what turned out, a card that continued to operate after all the hustle, we do not make it.
Conclusion
Leaving aside the misfortune of others to try this card, we enjoyed every moment of its use and not because got enjoyed the card, but performance on titles such as Metro 2033 on a large screen as the one used in our analysis finally we can really enjoy a smooth game that is not old and uses all available technologies to destroy any video card.
In general here we have a card that exceeds by far all others in our analysis, becoming 50% more powerful than a GTX 580, but considering that the price is almost 50% higher is the minimum expectation. Consumption in spite of being high is normal for this type of hardware, do not expect to see total consumption 300W in such platform.
In short, if you have a lot of money to spend on hardware without measuring consequences and also don't mind to pay a bit higher utility bill then get something like a GTX 590 or its counterpart, to be sure you get what you want and also in a single PCIe port.
The Good
- Silent considering that it has 2 GPUs to cool.
- It is smaller than an HD 6990 and slightly longer than a GTX 580.
- It has a very efficient cooling system for the GPU and frontal components .
The Bad
- The level of overclock is rather low considering the potential of GF110.
- Requires 2 GPUs (2 GF110) to output to 3 monitors at the same time.
Considering that we have in our hands against part of this card, it would be unwise to make an award without first assessing the full range of market, although we know the competition card performs as well as this, wait for the right time to decide the allocation of a prize to the GeForce GTX 590.
